Founded on 27 November 1995, the Brazilian Institute of Corporate Governance (IBGC) is a non-profit cultural entity of national scope. It was one of the responsible for the introduction and dissemination of the corporate governance concept in Brazil. It is today the main reference and only agency in the country that focuses on development of best practices in the field.
IBGC promotes conferences, publications, training and networking among professionals, contributing to the best development of organizations, business perpetuation and, consequently, to the future of the country.
The Institutes's main goal is to plant disclosure in companies management, fairness amongst partners, accountability and corporate responsibility. Such postures made easier for companies to enter the capital market and attract investors, resulting in a higher value generation. Besides, it has influenced positively the high management of non-listed companies.
With over a thousand associates, IBGC keeps a staff of researchers and specialists always aware of the changes in the corporate universe. Thus, it has firmed itself as an international reference in corporate governance.
Over little more than a decade, IBGC has ministrated capacitation courses to more than two thousand executives, entrepreneurs, board members and researchers.
The Institute is also well known for the elaboration of the "Code of Best Practices in Corporate Governance", released in 1999. Its third edition was released in 2004.
